It was the Championship Quarter Finals and the two teams to compete were LDLC and Fnatic which are two very good teams in my opinion (Better than me anyways). The game was going along smoothly with LDLC leading 12-3 (you need to win 16 rounds to win the game) going into the second half. At this point, everyone watching the match (including myself) thought the game was decided and that LDLC was for sure gonna win the match. But, of course that was not the case. The second half started and everything was pretty typical. The counter-terrorists (Fnatic) were defending the bomb sites and the terrorists (LDLC) were pushing up to plant the bomb. But then, something great happens. Fnatic start standing on top of each other and they get to a spot which is able to cover a very large portion of the map.
(If you want to see the boost in action)
This was the deciding factor in the match. This boost alone helped Fnatic win the game. Some people were amazed, and some people were furious. I was somewhere in between and I'll explain why. Before the tournament, Fnatic said they had been planning something a couple months in advance of the tournament. But the rules stated that if any exploits were found on the map, whoever discovered them had to declare them so that they can be fixed before any tournaments. Fnatic disobeyed this and kept their secret until the tournament itself. Because of their poor choice, Fnatic got disqualified after the game was over even though they won. To me this was the right choice on Dreamhack's part because they clearly disobeyed the rules and kept an exploit to themselves when they were supposed to let them know. Because of the results of this match, it will go on as one of the most infamous and amazing games ever to happen in the history of CS:GO.

I think the worst part of this entire match was the fact that Olofmeister from Fnatic
(The guy who got all the boost kills) was using this cheap and overpowered gun.

Hey Brousseau! This post was very interesting. Was Fnatic ever fined or charged for their actions? Was that video game loophole fixed? Was the game completely stopped? When you say Vol. 1 in your title, is that implying you're to comment on more cheating in video games IN GENERAL or will I read some more about CS:GO? Whatever it is, I am following your blog closely!
ReplyDeleteFnatic simply got their victory revoked after the tournament because the tournament officials read through the rules and saw that they disobeyed the rules. The loophole was indeed fixed after Fnatic exposed it. All they did was that they moved some stuff over so you're no longer able to get on top of that spot. The game was not stopped and instead it was revoked from Fnatic after the tournament. The Vol.1 in my title is implying that I will talk about cheating in video games in general and maybe a little more CS:GO because it has a big cheating problem even though their anti-cheat is very good.
DeleteTruly, it is a shame that they lost but, rules are rules. Having no watched the whole match, I wonder if they found this ability of jumping on each other before the match. I do find it hard to believe that one of the most elite gaming teams gave up their chances at winning, knowing well that doing what they did would get them disqualified. It is truly a shame.
ReplyDeleteThey did indeed find this ability before the match because a couple months before the tournament, the team Fnatic was interwiewed about their preparations for the upcoming tournament and they simply said that they had a trick up their sleeve. They didn't really think they would get disqualified but the officials really fought to revoke their victory because it outraged the gaming community and it was really unfair to the opposing team. Also the fact that their plan was an exploit really screwed them over.
DeleteHello Brousseau aka Matt Brousseau I really enjoyed what youève talked about but do you think that they should have to tell the people running the tournament what they've found on the map because think of it in a big scale if every team that has ever found a so called exploit or advantageous spot telling the people or group running the league can affect so much like for example the group running the tournament would have to check it out and make them show them to confirm if it is infact a cheat and that cause cause a delay the tournament and ruin it for the audience. Also this so called exploit is apart of the map and there isn't anything restricting them so I find it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again for the great read!
